Another Centre-Back Added to Newcastle’s January Shopping List

There have been claims this week that Newcastle United, along with Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, are keeping tabs on promising Cape Verde international Pericles Santos Pereira, otherwise known as ‘Pecks’.

The twenty year-old is a right-footed centre back currently plying his trade in Portugal for Gil Vicente and is reported to have a buy-out clause in his current contract of £5million.

His club are reportedly reluctant to let him go and President Antonio Fiusa said “The club don’t have to sell at an inferior price; the player has a contract until 2017.”

Pecks has one full international cap to his name and it is believed his tough-tackling style would suit the Premier League.

However, while Tottenham and Newcastle are both said to be interested, talkSPORT report that Gil Vicente have an agreement with Manuel Pellegrini, the Manchester City manager, allowing him to take first look at their young players, making the Eastlands club favourites to sign him.
