Alan Pardew – ‘There Can Be No Excuses’

Newcastle United’s record in the League Cup is nothing short of embarrassing but Alan Pardew has claimed he is desperate to change that.

As we await his starting line-up, the manager has claimed he will have a strong ‘squad’ against Leeds but will make changes, including giving pitch time to Paul Dummett and Sammy Ameobi.

The manager is obviously never going to put a team out that he will call second choice but it remains to be seen whether the side he puts out will have the fans agreeing it is a ‘strong’ line-up.

Alan Pardew has also uttered the fateful words, ‘There can be no excuses’, so you can only speculate exactly what he will come out with if things go pear-shaped.

This is what the manager has had to say about the cup-tie;

“Our fans want to win a trophy, go to Wembley and see silverware, so do I. I have come close before and I really want to win something.

We will have a strong squad against Leeds but there’s one or two I want to look at and see if they can push for the first team. Players such as Sammy Ameobi and Paul Dummett are knocking on the door.

This will be a team that makes up for that disappointing match on Saturday.

I am still livid about that Hull result and make no mistake, we are going to be at the races against Leeds.

There can be no excuses.

It is a home time and even though we are playing against a great club, we should win.”
