Alan Pardew In Rare Agreement With Fans On Newcastle v Everton Team Selection

8 years ago

Talking ahead of Monday night’s visit to Goodison Park, Alan Pardew appears to have made clear what his preference is in midfield.

With Cheick Tiote now back to fitness, the belief amongst many supporters was that Cheick Tiote would be the likely choice in midfield against Everton.

However, the manager appears to be going to stick with Anita (40/1 to score the first goal) instead, unless he plays both of them…

“He is an economical user of the ball and he does a lot of work, a bit like Tiote, which does not always go detected.

But he has his nose in front of Cheick Tiote at the moment and Cheick will be desperate to address that.

That is what you want, that is the competition. Vurnon Anita is under pressure to play well because he he has Cheick, one of the best of the last few years in the Premier League, breathing down his neck.”

This week we polled fans and asked which three midfielders they would choose to play at Goodison and thanks to all of you who took the time to register your vote.

The percentage of fans voting for each player were as follows;

93% Moussa Sissoko
87% Yohan Cabaye
69% Anita
39% Tiote
 9% Marveaux
 3% Gutierrez

Sissoko (17/1 to score first goal) has done ok this season without quite showing the spark he displayed on his arrival, while Yohan Cabaye (7/1 to score a goal any time) would no doubt be pleased to see his own approval rating so high after his chaotic early season.

Jonas and Marveaux aren’t even at the races so the third spot in the fans’ eyes appears to be between Anita and Tiote, with Anita clearly ahead at the moment and fitting in with what Alan Pardew has to say.

Interesting to see how the manager lays his team out because it is going to be a really tough game and something that would have been obviously tailor made for Tiote not so long ago.
