Alan Pardew ‘He Was Back To Near His Best Tonight’

9 years ago

After conceding three poor goals against Hull, Alan Pardew was naturally desperate not to see any repeat of that dire defending against Leeds.

Speaking after the match, the manager picked one player out for a special mention.

This is what he said to NUFC TV last night;

“We were more solid tonight and I thought Tiote had a lot to do with that, he was back to near his best tonight.

I thought he was a lot more comfortable in possession than last year.

He looks more about himself and I’m looking for a big season from Cheick.”

I thought he did ok but obviously you have to factor in that Leeds looked a pretty average to poor Championship side.

One thing I do know is that I have no doubts at all that Cheick Tiote will be back in that starting eleven against Everton.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Pardew putting Cabaye next to Tiote slightly further down the pitch than he has played in recent matches, in an attempt to recreate their successful partnership of two seasons ago.

Who then misses out? I would guess it’s a straight fight between Vurnon Anita and Moussa Sissoko, with Sissoko comfortably getting the nod every time for me.
