Alan Pardew Gives Injury Update
Speaking in advance of the Capital One Cup-tie with Leeds, Alan Pardew has given an update as to the availability of players for the league Cup match.
While confirming that Cheick Tiote, Paul Dummett and Sammy Ameobi will all play, the Newcastle manager has also confirmed that a number of players will miss out.
When asked about who’d be missing, Pardew had this to say;
“Shola has got flu and will definitely miss.
Yohan I feel perhaps needs to do a full week’s training because he had two games in a week, so he won’t be involved.
Jonas (Gutierrez) is too early because he has just done two days training.”
Alan Pardew has also talked about this competition being between Premier League ‘squads’ rather than teams, which for him clearly sums up exactly where this club competition stands in the hierarchy of where Premier League clubs want to be.
On the other hand as fans we’d love nothing more than to see our club win ‘only’ the League Cup. Beating Leeds and a nice home tie in the next round could see United into the quarter-finals.
Interesting to see how team selection develops if we get to the later stages…
