Who Is Up For Relegation?

There is so much at stake financially for clubs to stay in the top flight but come May three clubs will fall through the trap door.

It’s no surprise that the three promoted clubs; Cardiff, Hull City and Crystal Palace make up the top (bottom?) three in the betting to be relegated.

At 2/1 Crystal Palace look by far the most likely candidates. They have lost their best player Wilfried Zaha to champions Manchester United and top marksman Glenn Murray is on the long-term injury list. The have brought in Arsenal flop Marouane Chamakh and 40 year old Kevin Phillips but quite simply they do not seem to have the firepower to stay up.

For a bit more value however, I’m looking at two alternatives to Cardiff and Hull in the shape of STOKE CITY and SUNDERLAND.

First up Stoke City, they  were nothing short of abysmal after Christmas last season and won only 3 times in the league in 2013. This led to the departure of Tony Pulis and the somewhat surprising appointment of Mark Hughes in his 5th Premier league manager’s job.

Hughes did an awful job at QPR and his signings set that club back a good few years. His new club have hardly backed him in the market this time round with the signing of Dutch left back Erik Pieters the only major piece of business. I think the Potters could therefore be ripe for falling back down to the Championship and Stoke at 11/4 seems a fair price.

Moving on to the Mackems and their manager, the unpredictable Paulo Di Canio.

He certainly seems to be a marmite character with his players and he wasted no time in disposing of first team players Danny Graham, James McClean and Alfred N’Diaye.

He’s brought in a good few players to bolster his squad, notably Jozy Altidore, but the American aside, the other signings appear a bit short of the required quality.

I have a feeling that if the team go on a poor run then Mount Di Canio could erupt and the Mackems could find themselves adrift.

I think 5/1 the Mackems to go down is a fair price for them and nobody would lose too much sleep if that was the case.
