Two Newcastle Players Make French Squad But Cabaye Misses Out

France play Belgium in a friendly next Wednesday 14th August and two Newcastle players have made it into Didier Deshamps’ squad.

Moussa Sissoko and Mathieu Debuchy were named but there was no place for Yohan Cabaye, Mapou Yanga-M’Biwa, Hatem Ben Arfa or….Gabriel Obertan.

Before anybody gets worried about a possible transfer or injury, the French manager did not pick Cabaye as he is suspended for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Georgia in September.

Why on earth the authorities persist with friendlies only a few days before the season kicks off for English teams and not ideal for pretty much anybody, certainly in Europe, is anybody’s guess.

Alan Pardew will probably be relieved that Cabaye hasn’t been able to make this squad as Newcastle need him to be a central figure this season and a distraction like this stage wouldn’t help.

A massive year for Newcastle United and of course France and all the other countries hoping to make it to Brazil next year.

A decent gauge of how Newcastle’s season has gone may well be how many United players are on the French plane to the World Cup, if they qualify.
