Tiote Is All Over The Place…And Not Just On The Pitch
Like most of the rest, Cheick Tiote’s from disintegrated last season and he was a shadow of the player who had bossed the midfield so often previously.
Before the season started, again like most of the rest of our players, Tiote was one of those lined up by the club to speak about the new season and this is what he had to say.
Speaking to the Chronicle Tiote said;
We showed 2 years ago that we can compete for the top places in the Premier League, now we are hoping that we can do that again.
We are feeling much better now, we have worked harder than last year.
We are in the right frame of mind, physically we are in the best state to start the season.”
Only days later and the team looking a shambles, even taking into account the strong opposition on Monday night, Tiote had this to say to the Mirror (that is the newspaper, not the one he does his hair in front of);
“Honestly, I think that we need some more players in the squad because we don’t have a big squad.
Now we’ve got Steven Taylor out for three games and Jonas Gutierrez is injured, it is going to be tough on us because we don’t have a big squad. I hope the chairman is going to spend money on the club.”
If Jonas getting injured and Taylor out for a few games constitutes an injury crisis that makes Tiote change his mind…
Of course this isn’t the case, Tiote and the rest of the players most definitely knew how badly prepared Newcastle were for this campaign and Ashley not allowing expenditure on players was at worst cynical and at the best, reckless.
Which players come in (and go out) will dictate whether this season can be saved.
