The Window Looks Ever Smaller For Newcastle United

January 2013, Newcastle had just brought in five new players as their extremely thin squad was on the brink of collapsing.

The likes of Gouffran and Sissoko made their debuts against Aston Villa and from then till the end of the season Newcastle got 6 wins, 7 losses and 2 draws, not bad, but not great.

It was clear that the still small squad needed further strengthening, something Pardew promised would happen in the transfer window and we all believed Ashley had learnt his lesson from the summer beforehand.

Four days, four days is left till we kick off against Man City and the new season begins, not only have we not strengthened but we’re actually weaker. We’ve shown Simpson, Perch and Harper the door with no replacements brought in for these first team players.

I was hopeful of this transfer window, god knows the fear was always their but I was still hopeful….

Pardew has come out and said he doesn’t expect any new signings over the next week which means we won’t have any new talent for the start of the season as our one and only (loan) signing, Loic Remy, is injured.

Only 2 weeks left in the transfer window to begin with so if we’re going to get any new signings Pardew’s saying it will be in the last week. Considering how long it took us to get Remy and our failure to capture Gomis…

I’m wondering how many, if any, players we can sign in 7 days because we all know we need a few more. Each day we do not sign a player the window is getting smaller and the fear is growing.

All eyes will be on the last week of the transfer window to see what kind of season is ahead of us, be it good or bad.
