Shola Makes First International Start But Replaced By Newcastle Strike ‘Target’ Who Scores Twice
Shola Ameobi finally made his first starting line-up for Nigeria and it was a winning one, the Super Eagles running out 2-0 winners in Durban.
There was one ironic twist though as Shola was substituted at half-time in what looked a pre-planned arrangement along with a number of other players.
Shola’s replacement was 21 year old striker Uche Nwofor, who plays for Dutch minnows VVV Venlo.
The Dutch based young striker has been linked with Newcastle a number of times over the summer and he ended up scoring both goals as Nigeria ran out two goal winners.
Obviously one match doesn’t prove anything but it does highlight yet again that Shola is a goalscorer who doesn’t score many goals and United are looking desperate in that department at the minute.
After Motherwell, in pre-season Newcastle have score more than one goal on only a single occasion in seven matches (including Liverpool), which was against St.Mirren.
With Remy injured, the burden is far too high on Cisse and as was proved yet again last night, Shola is not the answer if it is goals you are after.
