Reported Remy On Way For Medical At Newcastle

It appears that Newcastle United could be at last going to add a much needed striker to their squad.

Sky Sports are claiming that they have been told that Loic Remy will have a medical in Newcastle today (Monday) before completing a loan move to St.James’ Park.

Remy was left out of QPR’s squad at the weekend making it obvious he was going to be moving somewhere and indeed Rangers’ Chairman, Tony Fernandes, stated the following;

“Some players want to play in the Premier League due to the World Cup. Loans are a good option. As we hope to come back to the Premier League.”

Previous reports have claimed that any deal would involve a £2m one-off loan period for the season plus Newcastle covering what are believed to be wages of £80,000 a week.

As others have written on this site, if this deal does become reality then it is a massive departure from the way Mike Ashley has done things so far. Committing around £6m in fees and wages for a player he will not ‘own’ is surprising to say the least.

Although maybe we shouldn’t see anything as a surprise these days, good or bad.

If Remy lands at Newcastle then I’m guessing the press focus will massively move to the ramifications of possible rape charges for the player, that’s a story they will never get tired of airing if he’s playing for Newcastle.

On a purely football basis, Remy scored 6 in only 14 appearances for a rubbish Rangers’ team so at least on the pitch he could prove a major (temporary…?) asset.
