Newcastle’s Left Wing Under Scrutiny

Every club wants to have a promising academy, home grown players climbing up the ranks and breaking into the first team.

Newcastle’s youngster have taken a bit of stick over the last few years as none of them have really made it in the football world, so to speak.

SF0001_Shane_Ferguson_Newcastle_United_NUFCHowever, four players who I think look extremely promising are Shane Ferguson, Paul Dummett, Adam Campbell and Haris Vučkić.

I think they will all make quality players in the coming years and should be held onto at all costs, especially Dummett

While three all play positions we have other options for, Ferguson does not.

Shane Ferguson typically plays left wing, sometimes left back, and not only can deliver a wicked cross on a regular basis, something we’ve lacked in Gutierrez, but he also has pace and seems to breathe new life into the game when he’s brought on.

At the end of last season he went on loan to Birmingham in the Championship and played some quality football, scoring one goal in nine games and whipping many a cross into the box. He played so well that Birmingham have taken him again on loan. The youngster has also been capped for Northern Ireland and has already gotten an international goal.

I think Ferguson is very underrated and when he returns should be given the chance to start in left wing, he might be just the player we need to add more attacking options up front.
