Newcastle United Predicted Line-Up v Fulham
Newcastle United v Fulham
Saturday 31st August 3pm
This weekend’s visitors haven’t had the best of starts in terms of perfromances either but they have came out of it pretty well in terms of results.
The Cottagers also found it tough midweek and lower league Burton were unlucky after leading deep into injury time, only for a late equaliser and then penalties to see Fulham into the third round of the League Cup.
Alan Pardew has said that a win today would then equate to a decent start over our first four competitive matches. Whether you agree with that or not, it’s clear that beating Fulham at home is a must if Newcastle are intending to be looking up and not down the table.
There are numerous connections between the two clubs and recent signing Scott Parker is one who stands out. Parker looks to be a key member of the Fulham midfield this season and he and on-loan maverick Taarabt could be key in midfield against the likes of Anita, Sissoko and the returning Cabaye (*unless he is peddled first).
An interesting bet is 10/1 Scott Parker to be first one carded, his clumsy style always makes that a possibility, while for us 12/1 Cabaye to be first player carded is also an attractive one as he throws in plenty of rash challenges and is sure to be hyped up if he plays tomorrow, as the manager has indicated.
Berbatov is always a handful on his going days but defence is looking the least of our problems and I quite fancy Newcastle to keep a clean sheet, just so long as we do ok in that key midfield area.
Pardew reported Krul having a minor knock midweek but with him behind Debuchy, Colo, Mapou and Santon I have a lot more confidence that we can keep goals out rather than score them.
At best Remy is going to start on the bench, so while Cisse and Ben Arfa are sure starters, I fancy that Sammy Ameobi might be a surprise choice to make up the front three. He was best of a bad bunch on Wednesday with Gouffran really poor and Marveaux even worse.
Considering Ben Arfa took just about every shot we had last Saturday, I think 5/2 Ben Arfa to score any time is value as he must get a few on target shortly!
Newcastle must show more attacking intent and I’m backing them to lift our spirits, I can see Anita behind Sissoko and Cabaye giving us a platform to get the better in midfield and convert that into a win.
I still don’t think we will see a massive improvement but surely against a struggling Fulham we have the ideal opposition.
If Newcastle come out strong then I can see a rare lead by half-time and then we will hopefully see the team have the character to see it through, Newcastle winning 1-0 15/2 or 2-0 11/1 are my kind of idea of the scoreline.
Going into a two week break a win could steady the ship and with the prospect of a fit Remy and surely at least one new signing we could start and piece together a path that could see Newcastle having a better season than looks likely at the moment. First things first though, three points tomorrow or else none of us will be sleeping soundly in the coming days.
