Newcastle Player Walks Man Of The Match Award But Has He Got What It Takes?
Which players do you think looked better than their League Two counterparts last night?
Well when we asked you for you Newcastle United man of the match votes, Sammy Ameobi was the massive winner.
I think Sammy was one of the few who clearly looked better than the opposition but has he got what it takes to do it in the Premier League?
What he has got is the rare ability to go past people which he showed repeatedly last night, and as Alan Pardew commented afterwards,Sammy also put the effort in tracking back.
However, you can’t ignore the fact that even last night against a team battling relegation to the Conference, Sammy’s end product was disappointing nearly every single time. His crossing is generally terrible and like most other Newcastle players he doesn’t look to pick anybody out, preferring just to launch it into the area or hit the first man.
On the other hand, his shooting is on a par with his brother, which says it all. He had a couple of decent chances last night and like Shola he just doesn’t seem to have the ability to put his foot through the ball and hit it in a straight line.
Sammy also shares the Ameobi aversion to heading the ball and this could prove a big asset to him if he embraced it, considering his size.
On the plus side, Sammy did finish brilliantly when Ben Arfa’s brilliant through ball set him up, as we all know though – doing that under no pressure against a League Two side is one thing and totally different to performing in the Premier League.
I think by a country mile Sammy Ameobi has the most natural ability of the recent players to come through the ranks, can he turn that into Premiership quality though?
