Michael Owen – ‘It’s Not About The Money’

I have to say how much I admire Michael Owen.

Obviously when I say how much I admire him, I do have to explain.

Well, Michael Owen has an incredible, admirable, ability to come out with comments about other players with no sense of self-awareness as to what his own behaviour has been over the years.

When talking about a possible move for Wayne Rooney, this is what Owen had to say;

“Wayne Rooney isn’t bothered about a pay rise, he is bothered about playing football.

He loves football so much, not money. He wants to play all the time in the big competitions.

I can’t understand why people mention money all of the time, I can assure you he isn’t bothered about a pay rise.

He is bothered about playing football and wants to be the main man, playing in all the big games.”

As I say, I hold my hands up. How Owen doesn’t comprehend how ridiculous his statements are when he praises Rooney for only being interested in the football side of things and not the money, when quite clearly our favourite number 10 was the exact opposite.

The sad thing is that Owen must live in such a bubble that he honestly can’t understand what his own personal behaviour equated to.
