Cabaye Out – Sinclair, Bent, McArthur, Ince In?
Sitting in a quiet bar here in France sipping a Ricard and water, my tranquility is disturbed when I pick up the excellent French sports paper L’Equipe.
The banner headline is ‘Cabaye to PSG’. Immediately I am reminded of one of my articles I wrote to your excellent magazine about NUFC’s transfer policy.
In this I stated that before Mike Ashley would sanction Joe Kinnear to make any signings in this transfer window they would have to sell Cabaye. Months later with only one miserable outgoing deal completed and one pathetic loan signing of a mercenary, and incredibly, an injured mercenary, I believe my article proves, unfortunately, to be entirely prophetic and correct.
Once Cabaye is sold to PSG for €25million then at the death we will complete the transfer of Gomis from Lyon, Bent from Aston Villa, a midfielder from Wigan and possibly Sinclair from Man City or Ince from Blackpool. Then yes, Ashley will, once again, walk away with a profit dispatched to his ever increasing pockets of our money.
In every transfer window, with the exception of last January, when Ashley thought there was a serious risk of relegation, the norm is that we, I’m sorry, he, rakes in more money than he pays out, thus reducing the ludicrous amount of money he paid for the Club and hoping against hope, that with a pathetically inadequate manager, NUFC can somehow muddle through.
This will, as each year passes, become more difficult to achieve given the spending of so called ‘lesser’ clubs such as Swansea, Aston Villa, Cardiff, Southampton, to name a few. All who have comprehensively outspent us and made major additions to their squads, whilst our squad looks as tacky as the pile of Sportswear items on sale at Sports Direct.
Is it too much to wonder, as I drown my sorrows with ever more Ricard, that we as fans, can mount some meaningful protest that will rid us of the dreadful duo who are an absolute disgrace and a blight on our great and once proud club?
Please let the answer be yes.
It is all too familiar.
