Top Player Steps In To Save Club He Supported As A Boy
With all the bad press players get, it is great to see one of the world’s top players bucking that trend.
The almost universal perception of modern football players is that money (coming in) is all that matters.
A childhood supporter of Spanish second division club Albacete Balompie, Iniesta put in 420,000 Euros into the financially distraught club.
The Barca midfielder has now rescued the club by paying all outstanding player wages and so avoiding automatic relegation, in addition Iniesta has pledged to meet the club’s financial commitments to keep it afloat.
The other massive positive is that the player has invested the money in the capital of the club, rather than leaving them with a loan hanging over their heads. As a result Iniesta is now the biggest shareholder with 7,000 (35%) of the 20,000 shares in the club.
Iniesta grew up in a small town called Fuentealbilla which is a province of Albacete.
The Albacete president said;
“It is such an honour to have a member like him. On top of that he signed all of the shares personally and not in the name of a business – it shows his love for the club yet again.”
