Shola Ameobi Back On The International Scene

8 years ago

With a bid by Newcastle confirmed for the Ivory Coast’s Arouna Kone, one of his fellow African (and Newcastle??) strikers may be returning to international football.

Shola Ameobi was allegedly lined up by Nigeria to play in the 2013 African Cup Of Nations but permission was refused by Newcastle thanks to a clause in his contract, twinned with the departure of Demba Ba leaving Newcastle desperately short of striking back-up in January.

Now though, reports in Africa ( have reported that Shola himself has confirmed he is available for selection once again, with the following statement;

“I would love to play for Nigeria under Stephen Keshi because he is a good coach, above all I’m very proud to be a Nigerian and will always grab the opportunity to don the green & white colours of my fatherland.”

The Nigerian FA commenting;

“Ameobi said the clause has been removed and he will be ready to play for the Super Eagles any time he is called upon.”
