Pardew Reveals Split Between Ashley & Llambias
This summer at St.James’ Park still has the look of a jigsaw missing a number of pieces, or somebody has swapped some of those pieces with those form another jigsaw…
As has been this summer’s theme, information is coming out in a more complicated and confusing way than happens at more normal clubs.
In an interview with BBC Newcastle, Alan Pardew has revealed that there was a breakdown in the relationship between Ashley and his Managing Director, Derek Llambias, though he’s not telling us exactly what happened, even if he knows.
“It is quite simple really; for whatever reason something happened with Mike (Ashley) and Derek’s (Llambias) relationship.
It had broken down somewhat and I’m sad to see Derek go because I thought he did a great job for the club and I’ll miss him.
I hope that Joe (Kinnear) does as good a job as Derek, if not better, in terms of persuading Mike to get the players that I feel we need.”
Where confusion really gains pace is the reference to Joe Kinnear as some kind of replacement for Derek Llambias. You assume that maybe Kinnear is covering the recruitment of players side of things that Llambias previously was part of, but clearly even Ashley wouldn’t see Kinnear as a Managing Director/Chief Executive.
With no solid news or announcement, the fact remains that Newcastle United are heading through this vital transfer window and possibly into the new season without anybody visible who is in charge and steering the club on Ashley’s behalf. All very strange and not the norm in the rest of the Mike Ashley empire.
