NUFC Reported Back In For Striker Who Marseille Fans Offered To Give A Piggyback To Newcastle!

Various media are now claiming that Newcastle United are back in for a striker that we first reported on back in June.

This is what we had to say back then;

Having missed out on Loic Remy in the January transfer window it is now reported that Newcastle are bidding £12m for Remy’s ex-team-mate Andre-Pierre Gignac.

The Marseille striker hasn’t been prolific overall in his three years at the French club, scoring 22 goals in 54 starts plus 28 substitute appearances. However, last season he was first choice and scored a very decent 13 goals in 28 league starts.

Gignac is 6ft 1 and 27 years old, which pushes to the extreme Ashley’s alleged upper age restriction on new signings.

However, the really interesting bit was when I had a look to see what the Marseille fans were saying on their Forum about this transfer speculation….

“I would give him a piggyback to Newcastle”

“Oh pi** off! Somebody offering 14m Euros for Gignac! My f****** god, sell sell sell”

“Great if we can replace Gignac, bring in one from abroad”

“If you read this Gignac, thank you for last season but not anything before. With your salary and predictable game you have your limits, you can go. England is cool, you have  a big salary and will move to a club of your heart”

“You and me both amazed if they offer 14m Euros”

“This is serious, 14m Euros for Gignac?”

“If you take away his (Gignac’s) goals then his contribution to the team is close to nothing, I hate players like him”

“Gignac has had a good season but 14m Euros…must sell!! His first two seasons were chaotic and if we refuse 14m Euros then we will look like fools when he leaves for 2m/3m Euros”

My big fear is that the Cisse story involves a lot of manipulation and a number of fans now brainwashed into turning against him, or at the very least believing that Newcastle would be better off without him and a better replacement brought in.

It would really be a dagger to the heart if we lost Cisse now as well as Demba Ba, two class strikers who were brilliantly scouted/sourced by Graham Carr.

Honestly, if we end up signing somebody like this Gignac as a cut price replacement for Cisse, we could be in massive trouble.
