Newcastle United Now Reported To Be Making Double Transfer ‘Swoop’ On Lyon
The clock is ticking down to the start of the season and with three weeks to go, it is now claimed that Newcastle United could make a double signing at cash troubled Lyon, adding strength at both the front and back.
Indeed Alan Pardew has even stated in his increasingly frustrated transfer comments;
“Gomis is a player who would suit us and we should pursue him as strongly as we can.”
The other name thrown into the mix by the Mirror is Lyon’s left footed 6ft 2 central defender Bakary Kone.
Kone is 25 and plays international football for Burkina Faso, whether he would improve Newcastle’s back line is open to question.
Since arriving at Lyon in a 2m Euros deal two years ago, Kone has roughly played half of the Ligue 1 league matches, indeed last season he was on the bench 16 times compared to 14 times in the starting line-up.
Gomis looks a decent player but hard to see Kone coming in ahead of Colo, Mapou or Taylor, though as a replacement for Williamson it would represent potential progress for me.
