Newcastle Strike Target Goes AWOL As Club & Player Accuse Each Other Of Greed
The Gomis transfer saga continues and matches Newcastle United’s own transfer window for bizarre behaviour.
The story so far has been one of Lyon’s owner making clear he desperately wants to get Gomis off the books to ease the financial pressures, while equally the player himself has made clear he will do things his own way and not be dictated to.
The latest episode in this French drama has seen Gomis go AWOL after a meeting was scheduled to discuss a possible transfer. There has also been claim and counterclaim regarding the financial side of any move, with both sides accusing the other of greed….
Gomis allegedly asking for too much in wages and signing on fee, while the club is accused of demanding an excessive transfer fee.
The latest has been reported by French website butfootballclub and expertly translated as always by Pierre on our behalf;
OL : Gomis a mis un « vent » à Aulas
OL: Gomis has “blanked” Aulas
Relations between Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas and striker Bafetimbi Gomis are not improving: the two men were meant to meet yesterday (Thursday) to discuss a transfer, the 27-year-old simply decided to not turn up.
“We gave him a letter by hand but he did not come,” said the owner in L’Equipe.
The departure of the French international, desired by his boss, has not moved forward in recent days: the clan Gomis blame the OL (Lyon) for asking too much for a transfer (€10 million + €2 bonus) while OL accuses the player of claiming too a big signing onbonus and higher salary than what he earns at OL.
We really don’t see how this situation is going to unravel …
