Newcastle Once Again Favourites To Sign Bent After Claims Fulham Refuse To Pay £80,000 Wages
I don’t know whether it would be right to say the twists and turns of this summer’s transfer market are ‘entertaining’ Newcastle fans but it is certainly hard to work out what is happening.
Maybe rather than tagging this summer as entertainment, maybe it would be best to put it in the category of a ‘whodunnit’ thriller – a one where at the end you are still left scratching your head as to what exactly happened and why?
Yesterday, the odds were slashed on Bent joining Fulham and it seemed a foregone conclusion, rather than joining Newcastle.
Now it is claimed that Newcastle are ‘leading the race’ once again to sign the Villa striker.
The Express are reporting this morning that the Cottagers have pulled out of the ‘race’ because of Darren Bent’s alleged £80,000 a week wage demands.
With Mike Ashley’s much publicised refusal to entertain those kind of wages any more at Newcastle, it would seem a bit of a leap of faith to think it is any kind of foregone conclusion that United will sign Bent, if those wage demands are anywhere near that ball park figure.
The newspaper goes on to claim that Joe Kinnear is in ‘talks’ with Bent and also mentions in passing that the striker still has a house up here.
Still just over three weeks to go until the season kicks-off, plenty of time still for this to run (crawl) towards the finishing line.
