Newcastle After Two(!) Goalkeepers – Does This Make A Transfer Story More Believable?
With signings thin (non-existent) on the ground so far, it still doesn’t stop the speculation continuing to torture our everyday lives.
Newcastle have already been linked by the media with a move for Jeroen Zoet, either as a number two to Tim Krul or as a replacement. Zoet is the Dutch Under 21s keeper and even at 22 has already been included in the full squad, while domestically he has been sent out on loan by PSV to gain experience.
Now The Mail have come up with a story that involves United going from a standing start of no new signings, to two, in one fell swoop. What is more, they are claiming that Newcastle are interested in signing two keepers!
The story goes that Newcastle may lose Tim Krul in the window and that the Newcastle management aren’t convinced by Rob Elliot; the net result as their story goes being that United want to bring in PSV’s Jeroen Zoet AND the Norwegian Number one, Rune Jarstein, who has been number one for the national side over the last six years.
Domestically, Jarstein currently plays for Norwegian side Viking FK, is 28 years old and stands at 6ft 3 tall.
The idea of getting rid of three goalkeepers and signing tow new ones, in one transfer window, would be strange even by Newcastle’s standards.
Though maybe not quite as strange as making absolutely no new signings as yet this summer…
