More Chance Of Newcastle and Sunderland Fighting It Out For The Premier League Title…

At long last the first lot of live TV matches were announced yesterdday, an extra delay this time around allegedly due to issues regarding how the current system will work with new kids on the block, BT.

No surprise to see that we have more than our fair share of matches moved and 3 of the rubbish lunchtime slots falling our way, along with two of the even worse Monday night slots.

The only two decent kick off times in my opinion were the Saturday teatime one at home to West Brom and the SUnday 4pm one against….Sunderland!

August 19 Manchester City (A) 8pm (SKY)
Sept   30 Everton (A) 8pm (SKY)
Oct 19 Liverpool (H) 12.45pm (BT)
Oct    27 Mackems (A) 4pm (SKY)
Nov 2 Chelsea (H) 12.45pm (BT)
Nov 10 Spurs (A) 12noon (SKY)
Nov 30 West Brom (H) 5.30pm (SKY)

When I saw that, I was struck by two things. Firstly, there isn’t a chance in hell of the derby match going ahead at that time, then secondly, how can they leave it so long without announcing the TV fixtures and then when they eventually do, one of the timings is something the police won’t tolerate.

I think it is pathetic how the police have absolute power over kick-off times.  Back in the day you would have ten thousand or more making their way down to Joker Park and that was before the Metro was invented! No free buses back then – so I still don’t see what the problem is with having the match at 4pm in the afternoon, especially when the majority travel on the free buses and you are looking at around a thousand maximum making their own way to Sunderland. As the scenes after the derby match at St.James’ Park showed, whatever time of the day it is, people can fill themselves with drink and up with a social misbehaviour problem.
