Mike Ashley Made Shepherd & Hall Rich Men But Is That The Fault Of The Newcastle Fans?
I am sure Abramovich and Mansour have no real idea either, but they bought clubs with the intention of investing their wealth, and have done it well enough to deliver success.
However, there is a clear indicator Ashley never had any such intention – he bought the club without doing due diligence, so unpaid transfer fees and loans were not discovered. You would only not do due diligence if you feared losing the club to a rival bidder, or you feared one shareholder (Shepherd) would not sell.
So although he may have balanced the books, the interest free loan was not out of a love for the club, but needed due to his own error – he may have thought he could buy the club for a decent price and sell it soon after at a profit to someone with oil money no doubt.
Play fair Mike, you paid Hall and Shepherd way too much for their shares given the debts outstanding, you made them rich men, yourself £100m poorer and us miserable.
Is it the supporters fault?
How would you feel if all the above happened to a club/something you truly held dear to your heart? Look at those you have left by the wayside in all this; Keegan, Shearer, Hughton, Newcastle United’s supporters, all the staff made redundant after relegation – all of whom are held in high regard, or have achieved in football, or deserved better.
