Meet The New Boys? – If Only

When I saw a headline pop up from the official Newcastle United website, I hoped it was one of two things – neither of which sadly were very likely.

The headline of the club’s article was ‘Meet The New Boys’.

Sadly, in the present incoming transfer embargo, not for one second did I think this could be a new signing/signings.

I did have an amusing thought in my head that I would love somebody within the club to do and that is follow the great Len Shackleton’s lead when he wrote his autobiography.

One chapter was headed ‘The Average Director’s Knowledge Of Football’, famously consisting of a completely empty page.

Wouldn’t it have been great in this depressing summer to have even a bit of wit and an empty page when you clicked on ‘Meet The New Boys’?

The truth was predictably slightly less interesting; a worthy article (with a misleading headline…not the best idea in this current climate) detailing the 14 young players who have joined Newcastle United’s Academy as first year scholars this summer.

Welcome to Adam Armstrong, James Atkinson, Daniel Barlaser, Jamie Cobain, Kyle Cameron, Andrew Hall, Ben Drennan, Adam Laidler, Joe Kerridge, Callum Roberts, Callum Williams, Jordan Storey, Brendan Pearson and Freddie Woodman.
