Kinnear Coaching Appointment In Talks With Newcastle United – Ominous For Alan Pardew
It has just been reported that Mick Harford is in talks with Newcastle United to come and ‘work with Joe Kinnear’.
Harford actually signed as a player for United back in 1980 but only lasted 19 matches, scoring 4 goals, before moving on to Bristol City.
Despite playing for Newcastle, Harford has never been widely liked amongst our support. His mackem upbringing not helping but he’s never seemed that keen on us either when coming up against Newcastle.
His self-styled hard man image made him ideal to be involved with Wimbledon and it was indeed Joe Kinnear who signed him for the Dons in 1994.
Like Kinnear himself, Harford has shown nothing that suggests he would be an asset to Newcastle United, having scratched around at the likes of Rotherham, Colchester and Luton during his managerial/coaching career.
Sky Sports have reported that their sources claim the deal is imminent and if they prove correct then we’ll actually have two people with experience as a Director of Football, Harford having performed this role at Luton.
This would be another dismal appointment and surely only increase speculation that Alan Pardew is being painted into an ever tighter corner as Kinnear tightens his grip at the club.
Desperate times unless you are an eternal optimist.
