How Many Players Leave Newcastle And Go On To Better Things?

With rumours flying around left, right and centre about some of our better players moving on; Cabaye to Man Utd if the Cesc bid fails is one constant and the apparent Liverpool interest in Ben Arfa.

I thought to myself, have any ever left Newcastle and gone on to think that it was a good idea and achieved greater things?

Now this might sound like the most egotistical article about our club but I assure you I’m not one of those fans who stand outside St James’ waiting to make the rest of us look stupid via the world of Sky Sports news despite never actually having stepped foot inside the stadium. However,  in all honesty, we are big but we are not ‘Man Utd big’ or ‘Real Madrid big’, might as well face it.

With the exception of Andy Cole, who won that many trophies he can’t see his mantelpiece for brass nowadays, I can’t think of anyone else who ever moved on from us and things got better from thereon in.

A few modern day examples are Carroll who before he became a traitor we all liked and hoped he was the next Shearer. I can’t understand what went through his head on the helicopter to Liverpool that night in January 2011. People may say money but £30k a week is a lot, especially to play where he had wanted to (like all of us) for all his life, I’m sure he could have got an improved contract had he held on.

Enrique as well, Liverpool were unstoppable in the 80s, not so any more (don’t let their fans fool you). There’s a joke; “how many Liverpool fans does it take to change a lightbulb? – It’s never been done, they just stand around talking about how good the old bulb was.”

Supermac went to Arsenal but injury stopped him there, he came back as well but in the media.

Pedro another but he soon got lured back.

My point is this the outside world look into Newcastle and some laugh (more than usual at the moment), some don’t get it, while others kind of get it.

Unless you were born here, or lived here for an extended period of time, you don’t fully understand it.

Same goes with the Media outside looking, in we look barmy and I bet fantastic for articles and stories – but once you are in you will never find any better.
