Does Pre-Season Have to Played Out In Front Of 3 Men And A Donkey?
Can Newcastle United compete and if so, who with?
Some clubs such as Manchester United are one-offs, the money they attract worldwide is a very strange phenomenon and much to do with an emotional story produced by tragedy.
At the moment Newcastle United can only be described as bystanders when it comes to attracting commercial income.
Freddie Fletcher showed in the nineties just how valuable the Newcastle United ‘brand’ can be when used correctly, for various reasons Mike Ashley has seemingly zero interest in even investigating just how big the reach of NUFC could be when put in front of an international audience which could enable revenues to grow and subsequently strengthen the squad.
The pre-seasons under Ashley have descended into farce and it is embarrassing that while Newcastle were playing in front of three men and a donkey in Portugal with no remotely discernible commercial benefit, the likes of Liverpool are playing in front of 95,000 of their ‘fans’ in Australia. (see video below)
Newcastle aren’t another Liverpool (thankfully) but that doesn’t mean that you don’t try and do your best.
Like I tell my kids when they’ve got whatever going on at school, ‘just do your best, that is all that counts’.
If only Mike Ashley would take notice.
