Last night we brought you news that the Lyon President, Jean-Michel Aulas, had confirmed via Twitter that both Newcastle and Villa were in talks with
This afternoon, the Evening Chronicle have stated that they’ve been tipped the wink and Newcastle are indeed negotiating for Gomis to be United’s first signing of the summer.
With Lyon desperate to sell to ease financial pressures, only a year left on his contract but an impress 43 goals in the last two seasons, it is anybody’s guess what a potential fee would be. If Newcastle end up competing with Villa or whoever, then you have to just pray that United are ready to push the boat out to bring in a real quality striker, whatever happens with Papiss Cisse.

EXCLUSIVE – Mercato – OL: Gomis tempted by Newcastle
Gomis is on the move for sure during this transfer window. The Lyon striker has been told to find a club as soon as possible and Newcastle could offer him the way out.
Jean-Michel Aulas, the president of the OL, has made Bafé Gomis’s sale a priority during this summer transfer, having increased his criticism , on Twitter and in the press against his striker. But Gomis has remained true to his course of action, namely to continue his time with with Lyon in view of the 2014 World Cup. The meeting on Monday 1 st July, between representatives of Gomis, the player and leaders Lyon has changed the situation.
A departure is now envisaged by Gomis.
Given the intransigence (stubbornness) of Jean-Michel Aulas, Gomis, invited to remain behind to train at Tola Vologe whilst his teammates left for pre-season in Tignes, is now considering a departure if a “good” opportunity presents itself. According to our sources, the striker of the OL, however, does not want to end up anywhere such as at Swansea, in Turkey or Russia in particular.
According to our information, two new options, more ‘prestigious’ clubs have emerged and are likely to interest the international. Newcastle would be especially interesting. The English club, after trying to sign Aubameyang, have made inquiries in recent days on the Lyonnais striker.
Newcastle were previously linked with Gomis but the position now is that Lyon are in a financial position where they have to sell players and Gomis is top of the list with only one year to go and also a player who will demand a significant transfer fee.
Gomis would undoubtedly prove a big step forward if United were to sign him, with 20 goals in 35 matches this season and 43 in total over the last two years he has an excellent profile.
As always, here’s hoping.
