Claims That Joe Kinnear Is After Rolando, Or Is That Ronaldo?

There is no shortage of transfer speculation at St.James’ Park, it is just actual signings that are yet to be seen.

The names keep getting churned out while we are told of countless meetings taking place with Pardew to meet Carr, Kinnear met Pardew, Carr to meet Kinnear, Harry met Sally – and so on.

You say Ronaldo, Joe says Rolando…

Joe Kinnear is apparently ‘going to be back at his desk’ on Monday and  getting stuck into transfer action.

The name plucked out of the air this morning by a number of media sources is that Joe Kinnear is after Rolando, or at least that is who they say, I still though wouldn’t put it past Joe targeting the second best player in the world or that veteran Brazilian goofy striker with the ever expanding waistline.

The Rolando the press are speculating on is a centre-back who is on the books of Porto.

One thing for sure is that the player would certainly appear to be available, having fallen out in January with his manager, the defender went out on loan to Napoli but only made 7 appearances for the Italians.

The 27 year old Rolando is 6ft 2 and a Portuguese international, whilst with Porto he has won the Europa League plus a number of domestic trophies, including league titles.

In 110 appearances for Porto he has also scored a respectable 7 goals, which would be termed outstanding compared to the goal contribution of Newcastle’s defenders in recent times.

A transfer fee in the region of £5m is speculated, along with supposed interest from Everton.
