Another Sunderland Signing Looking Forward To Coming To Newcastle?

Sunderland are reported to be on the verge of signing a new right-back.

Twenty one year old Gino Peruzzi of Argentine club Velez Sarsfield, is said to be close to joining the mackems. With Sarsfield’s vice-president, Julio Baldomar, saying they are in the middle of ‘advanced negotiations’.

The Argentine club’s general manager happens to be Christian Bassedas, who played for Newcastle under Sir Bobby. As an aside, Bassedas proved to be average at best on the field but was apparently a really canny lad off it, he wasn’t interested in anything of the stereotypical footballer’s life and just wanted to live normally in the local community. As a consequence he made a lot of real friends in his time on Tyneside and keeps in touch with them.

Anyway, Peruzzi has said a big factor in his desire to move are the positive reviews from Bassedas.

This is what Peruzzi had to say after Bassedas marked his card;

“Yes, Bassedas told me about the city (which one???), the people (Mackems/Geordies?), that there is a lot of respect, he said something about the team. He told me that he liked to play there.

It is beautiful, especially since in my opinion it is one of the best leagues because of the tempo played there. I think English football is the most competive.”

I just hope our old friend Christian (Bassedas) doesn’t get sued by Peruzzi afterwards for misleading information…..
