Anita and Mapou Head North But Cisse On The Missing List

Speaking ahead of tonight’s friendly at Motherwell (7pm kick-off), Alan Pardew has talked about his selection policy for the match.

The manager has confirmed that it will be, “A fairly young team with a sprinkling of senior players”.

The main criteria for the manager has been to pick those who are most advanced in their pre-season work and fitness.

“I am playing the team that is in the best condition, so the best conditioned player in each position will play.

The best conditioned number four is Vurnon Anita who is in front of Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote, so he’ll play.

Mapou is my best conditioned centre-back and so he will play, that is the reason behind the team.”

Today also brought news that Papiss Cisse wasn’t at the training ground on Monday, fuelling ever more the Wonga controversy, assuming there is one.

A bit of a shame that Alan Pardew didn’t continue his theme of telling us who was in the best condition in other positions, such as…striker.

Oh well, at least we’ve managed to keep hold of Shola.
