Ameobi On His Way To Championship?

While we wait to see which new players will arrive at St.James’ Park this summer and which senior players end up leaving.

When it comes to the younger players, this really is make or break for them.

It is reported this morning that having failed to land Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling on loan, Bolton Wanderers are interested in taking Sammy Ameobi on loan in the coming season.

I think it would be great to see Tavernier, Ferguson, Dummett, Newton, Sammy Ameobi, and any other promising young players who are over 20, all hopefully get fixed up with Championship clubs for a full season.

To stand any chance of coming through as Premier League players they would need to really shine in that division and surely it is a win win situation. If they really progress this next year then Newcastle could add them to their first team squad, while if they simply do ok then they move on and make their careers at a lower level elsewhere.

Survival of the fittest and all that.

In Sammy Ameobi’s case, he really needs to show that things like that cracking (only) goal for Middlesbrough last season aren’t a flash in the pan, as was the scorcher he scored for Newcastle against Scunthorpe in the League Cup. He needs to go out on loan and get into at least double figures over the season, anything less and he will be just another promising youngster who didn’t come through at Newcastle.
