Alan Pardew “We Have No Excuses This Season”
When interviewed up at Motherwell in advance of the friendly match last night, Alan Pardew was asked about how Newcastle were placed for the coming season.
Amusingly for many of you, he still managed to get in mentions of the Europa League and injuries, though he did however make clear that he admits there are no excuses now…
Our Premier League performances must improve and if they improve then results will follow. I am very excited about our team, I think three or four players who came in January will have a much bigger impact this year.”
I think the phrase most appropriate for the manager is that he has painted himself into a corner.
He has (yet again) put last season down to the Europa League and the injury list, rather than the failure of Mike Ashley to back him with new transfers last summer.
Following the party line, Alan Pardew is pointing to the January signings as his and our saviours, they did just enough to help save us last season but can they make the leap from that to help Newcastle be better than relegation fighters?
No excuses for the manager this time, unless we get some injuries…
