Alan Pardew; ‘Important That The Fans & Players Know That I Am Managing This Football Team’
In his hardest hitting interview since Joe Kinnear’s appointment, Alan Pardew looks to have drawn a line in the sand as to where he sees what is and isn’t acceptable.
Speaking to NUFC TV, the manager has made clear that his contract states that he manages the team and he wants players and fans to fully appreciate that this remains the case.
Within the interview he does also acknowledge that Joe Kinnear is top of the tree on transfers and indeed refers to him taking over from Derek Llambias on that front., so to a degree Alan Pardew is no worse off in terms of the control he has on incoming activity.
“As the manager of this football club, which I am. I think it is very important that the fans and players know that I am managing this football team, that’s my contract and that is what I am going to do.
We’ve got a full Premier League campaign & two Cups and I think we’ve got the squad to have a really good season and hopefully we can improve on that squad too.
In the January window we strengthened the team to a degree that meant some players were surplus (Harper, Simpson, Perch etc.).
I have had a really nice break, some quality time with my family, I can’t tell you how motivated I am for the next year.”
Alan Pardew also says ‘hopefully we can improve’ on the squad but I think we all know that he knows how desperately it needs strengthening in key areas.
One positive though is that the manager does definitely look refreshed after his holiday, as compared to the state (like us!) he ended up in during the final stages of last season.
Will he show he’s closer to a top five or bottom five manager this season? Firstly though, will he be given the backing that he failed to get last summer?
