Alan Pardew Emerges From Hiding
After 23 days without sight or sound of him, Alan Pardew has reappeared, with the players enjoying their first proper training session.
Over the last week, players have gradually come back to the training ground, though some who have had international commitments this summer have been allowed extra time off.
I thought something was up when the club had Sky Sports showing live footage of the training session this morning, clearly some kind was being made in inviting them along and I take it that the point was to show our manager was still around.
This has now been followed by the club giving this teaser on Twitter;
‘Alan Pardew spoke to nufc TV today at United’s first training session – hear what the NUFC boss had to say in a special feature on Monday’
I wonder what he will have to say about his 23 day absence from our TVs, newspapers, websites (including the club’s official one) and so on? Fantasists/dreamers will claim he was simply on his holidays but I bet hardly a day went by last summer when our manager wasn’t quoted somewhere.
To not give a single quote in over 3 weeks to the local papers or NUFC’s own website is just unbelievable. Particularly when you consider his boss (Llambias) has resigned, a Director of Football has been brought in to work above him, players such as Simpson and Perch who he had a close relationship with have left, plus a couple of kids have actually signed for us.
What is revealed on Monday is most unlikely to tell us the whole truth but hopefully will educate us in some way as to what has gone on and how we can move on from this shambles of a summer.
However, I will leave you with one thought.
Alan Pardew goes missing for 23 days and doesn’t utter a word since Joe Kinnear is appointed.
Then at the most crucial stage of a Director of Football’s year, Kinnear suddenly reveals he has to head off immediately on some ‘pre-planned family holiday’ and leaves stage left…
…Only for stage right, Alan Pardew instantaneously reappears just as the door closes on JFK.
If you think this is pure coincidence then you are as barmy as that Director of Football…is it Jim Canthear or was it Jo King? I’m not very good with names either.
