Following Lyon’s owner stating Newcastle were negotiating to buy Bafetimbi Gomis, Alan Pardew has now confirmed that United are indeed trying to buy the French striker.

Speaking to the Times our manager said;

“We have expressed an interest in Gomis, who we think has great potential.

He is a French international who has played at the highest level for his club.”

Gomis has scored 72 goals in 194 games for Lyon, last season scoring 16 goals and making 6 assists to help his club finish third in Ligue 1.

Obviously it looks a great buy if Newcastle can land him (Gomis) but if Cisse then leaves it means that it is still absolutely essential that Newcastle bring in one other striker, at the very least.
