Alan Pardew – Cheick Tiote Probably Wouldn’t Be Here If He’d Had A Decent Season

Since Alan Pardew’s return from holiday he has made a point of going around his squad, publicly bigging up each of his elite players in turn.

The latest to get the treatment was midfield dynamo, Cheick Tiote.

I think Tiote became a bit of a scapegoat for much of our troubles last season and wasn’t as bad as many made out, though clearly wasn’t the force he had been previously.

Interesting to see that when Alan Pardew gave the following quotes to the Evening Chronicle, he was speaking in a similar vein to an [intlink id=”31407″ type=”post”]article that went up on The Mag website yesterday[/intlink].

“All players have disappointing seasons and unfortunately for us, Cheick’s coincided with us having a disappointing season as well, which probably didn’t help him.

He had such a fantastic season the year before and you don’t become a bad player overnight.

It is about confidence and getting him back to where he was.

He is a fantastic character around the building and if he’d had another year like he did when we finished fifth, he probably would be gone.

So who knows, that might work in our favour this year given the fact he’s still here.”

There is no doubt that if the likes of Tiote and Cabaye bounce back to their best then the team overall can also do the same. However, we have to acknowledge that without major incoming signings we’ll be in for another struggle if loss of form and/or injury strike again.
