Scottish Club Release Statement Regarding Confusion Over Newcastle Friendly

With most of Newcastle United’s pre-season programme still to be confirmed, there was even confusion over one of the matches that had already been confirmed.

Newcastle had confirmed that a team was going to play St.Mirren next month but had listed it under the Under 21s pre-season fixtures.

Now the Scottish side have released the following statement on their website regarding the match.

‘It was reported on the Premiership side’s (Newcastle United) official website that the match would be part of the Magpies Under 21s pre-season schedule although it was also reported by them (NUFC) that a number of first team players would join the Under 21 squad for the match in Paisley.

Since then we have had several enquiries asking for clarification on details for the match so we caught a quick word with St.Mirren CEO, Birain Caldwell who said, “The arrangement with Newcastle United is that they will be sending a squad made up of first team players, reserves and Under 21 players.

“While we can’t guarantee who will be appearing for the St.James’ Park side I’m sure that we will get to see some familiar faces in the Newcastle ranks over and above Conor Newton and Paul Dummett.”

Tickets are already on sale online and at the St.Mirren ticket office, though no news as to when/if Newcastle will be selling any.’

The game is on Tuesday 30th July with a 7.30pm kick-off and with adult tickets priced at £15 I reckon the punters who turn up will be assuming/praying that the ‘first team players’ don’t turn out to be Mike Williamson, Dan Gosling and Gabriel Obertan.
