Reported £12m Bid From Newcastle For Marseille Striker
Having missed out on Loic Remy in the January transfer window it is now reported that Newcastle are bidding £12m for Remy’s ex-team-mate Andre-Pierre Gignac.
The Marseille striker hasn’t been prolific overall in his three years at the French club, scoring 22 goals in 54 starts plus 28 substitute appearances. However, last season he was first choice and scored a very decent 13 goals in 28 league starts.
The Daily Mail are reporting this story and as usual we are left wondering whether this is the needle in the haystack that actually comes true, amongst the numerous close season page-fillers.
Gignac sounds a bit of a character having revealed that he comes from Romany descent and his extended family live in caravans.
The story claims that Graham Carr has had the player watched but then there again it would be hard for Carr not to have watched Gignac regularly considering the number of French matches the Geordie Chief Scout takes in over the channel.
