Newcastle United’s Inbetweeners
James Perch and friends made the headlines recently when he and a handful of his Newcastle United teammates were photographed in Las Vegas on Perch’s stag do, some of them looking less than cool/hip in their speedos.
Looking around the stag and friends they strike me as canny unassuming blokes, certainly compared to your average Premier League footballer, in fact apart from maybe Jonas they don’t really look the part of superstar Premier League players. Nothing wrong with that of course but a thought did strike me….
James Perch, Dan Gosling, Shola Ameobi, Jonas Gutierrez, Rob Elliot and Mike Williamson are surely Newcastle United’s answer to ‘The Inbetweeners’!
If you haven’t seen it before, make an effort to see this class comedy series (and film) which features four lads in school sixth form who aren’t at the very bottom of the pile but are far removed from being the popular, attractive to the girls, blokes they dream of being.
The four main characters are pictured and from left to right they are Simon, Will, Jay and Neil.
Their characters are roughly;
Simon – Obsessed about one girl and bores everybody else with it.
Will – Total geek but tries really hard.
Jay – Fantasist and serial liar who is always trying to pretend he is something he is not.
Neil – Very likeable but lanky, awkward and a bit hopeless.
So, I don’t know if you are ahead of the game here but which of our six cool dudes most closely matches up;
Simon/Elliot – Rob Elliot has a permanently slightly scary/obsessed look about him, does he blink?
Will/Perch – Very willing and takes all the knockbacks on his chin, keeps coming back for more.
Jay/Gosling – Goes around telling everybody that he plays for Newcastle United.
Neil/…I don’t think I need to give any clues on this one!
Newcastle United’s Inbetweeners, at last a St.James’ Park comedy it is acceptable to laugh at!
