Newcastle United Win Trophy In Milan But The Locals Are Still Yet To See A Mackem
Thanks to Italian based friend of The Mag, Cristiano Cairoli, for bringing us news of a trophy for the Toon!
Last weekend the first ‘Italian Connections’ football tournament took place in Milan, just next to the San Siro.
The tournament involved sixteen teams comprised of Italian fans of English & Scottish clubs and was staged with the assistance of the British Consul in Milan, Vic Ansell.
The Italian Magpies team were brought together from across Italy via their facebook page with really the only aim to have some fun and spend time together with their black & white compatriots.
However, the Italian Mags showed the inhabitants of St.James’ Park the way to do it as they saw off QPR, Liverpool and Spurs, before a semi-professional Southampton Italian outfit were defeated in the semi-finals.
The final saw United up against Everton and the black and whites emerged victorious with a 2-0 win to take the trophy, the event producing healthy coverage in the national sporting newspapers and numerous TV channels, with still no (English!) mackems in sight.
The Italian Geordies lined up as follows ;
Andrea Pagani (Who also won the Goalkeeper of the Tournament))
Nicola Pagani (Also winning Player of the Tournament)
Massimo Assoni (Player-Manager)
Matteo ‘Better Than Cabaye’ Belotti
Max ‘Lucky 17’ Corbetta
Pierluigi Cialone (Who came all the way from Finland especially for the event)
Roberto ‘Nobody Can Stop Me’ Soldano
Stefano ‘Mc.Farland’ (Roberto’s nephew)
Nicola ‘A New Shoulder’ Leonesio
Andrew ‘Ado’ Adobati
Riccardo ‘The Rock’ Marchesini
Cristiano Cairoli
Cristiano would especially like to highlight the spirit within the squad, old and new friends, but all proud to support Newcastle United. Getting together as often as possible in pubs to see matches, or traveling to the Toon when possible.
You can find our more on their site www.italymagpies.it and facebook page.
Cristiano says everybody is welcome and you won’t regret it. They organize travel to games and everybody can join for a chat and a couple of drinks! So if you are based in Italy, visiting in the future, or just want to communicate with our fans in Italy, get in touch….and maybe meet somebody in black & white who has lifted a Cup!
