Mike Ashley Lines Up Newcastle To Play Rangers
With Newcastle United’s pre-season plans seemingly once again entwined in mystery and chaos, the only (kind of) confirmed warm-up game is against Blackpool. The seasiders Chairman Karl Oyston confirming there is a game planned but no date as yet given.
Newcastle have confirmed that a trip to South Africa has fallen through for the second year in a row and The Journal newspaper has mentioned a training camp and possible friendly in Portugal as an alternative.
However, now there are rumours elsewhere that Newcastle could have another foreign destination, though it is doubtful whether you’ll be needing to take any sun cream.
Reports from north of the border suggest that Newcastle are lined up to play Glasgow Rangers pre-season, with another commercial link to Mike Ashley’s interests in that he owns just under 9% of the Scottish club and his Sports Direct empire act as merchandising supplier for Rangers.
It is unlikely that Newcastle will be hosting any friendlies at St.James’ Park with preparation work on the pitch going on and it being a bit too much hassle for our club organising anything.
