Has That Bloke Off The Stag Do Been Organising Newcastle’s Pre-Season Again?

Newcastle United’s pre-season has been taking shape….after a fashion.

It reminds me a bit of a stag do I went on once, where the groom had this dopey best man who he’d grown up with and we all paid our money up front and trusted him to organise ‘something special’ – in his words. We ended up doing archery and an assault course!

Last pre-season for Newcastle United was simply chaos, with a trip to South Africa falling through and a succession of low key friendlies announced, some with only a few days confirmation from NUFC for fans – despite the host clubs selling tickets for a week or longer before Newcastle said the matches were definitely happening.

This close season, a trip to South Africa has fallen through, while a number of low key friendlies at various stages on the rumour mill and no word whatsoever from St.James’ Park.

Last week Blackpool’s chairman announced that a friendly was planned with Newcastle but didn’t give a date, while there are also friendlies speculated at St.Mirren (30th July mentioned) and Scottish League Division 2 side, Glasgow Rangers.

One match which looks to be happening is at Motherwell on July 16th, prices are set at £15 for adults and on the official club website they talk about Newcastle having a ‘wealth of talent’ including Ben Arfa, Colo, Cisse and Cabaye – suggesting that they are expecting our first team to travel.

I just get the impression that there is no urgency within the club, though I’d love to think there was feverish activity behind the scens and bang(!!), first week of training we have a good handful of quality new signings joining in and next season’s jigsaw is all falling into space.

I don’t have a problem with playing teams like Motherwell or whoever, I’d be happy with any opposition so long as it was part of some co-ordinated plan to have the team in peak condition for 17th August.

See you at Motherwell…if it is on.
