French Strike ‘Target’ Looking For Bigger Club Than Newcastle…Everton

If you are able to detach yourself from the transfer speculation nonsense that follows Newcastle United, then the coverage can give you more than a few laughs.

What often happens is that one non-story doesn’t just stand alone, it then leads to a succession of other stories following on from the original non-story.

Earlier this week we brought you news of speculation linking Newcastle with Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac. The 27 year old had a half-decent season last year with 13 goals in 28 matches but his overall record is very average.

Indeed the word coming out of Newcastle is that there is no interest at all but that hasn’t deterred the likes of the Daily Mail wanting to keep the plates spinning and the headlines coming.

Their latest angle ignores any idea that Newcastle may have zero interest and instead now claim that Gignac has told his agent he wants a bigger club than United and the club the Mail have plucked out of the air is Everton.

To be honest, the blue scousers will be quite welcome to the Marseille striker if the reaction of the French club’s fans is anything to go by, read [intlink id=”30577″ type=”post”]HERE[/intlink] what they said on hearing of a possible £12m transfer.

Here are just a couple of the many cutting/amusing comments;

“I would give him a piggyback to Newcastle”

“This is serious, 14m Euros for Gignac?”

“Gignac has had a good season but £14m…must sell!! His first two seasons were chaotic and if we refuse £14m then we will look like fools when he leaves for £2m/£3m”
