French Reports Of £25m Move By Newcastle United For St.Etienne Striker & Defender
Reports have surfaced in France today that Newcastle are offering €29 million (£25m) in a double ‘swoop’ on St.Etienne.
The website of the respected France Football magazine (which is owned by L’Equipe) has said that Newcastle want to now buy not just Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who United have been linked with since January – but that they also want to bring in the highly promising 18 year old centre-back Kurt Zouma.
This is how France Football have reported the story and thanks as ever for the expert translation by Pierre.
Newcastle The Great Attack Of St Etienne (Newcastle, la grande offensive à Saint-Etienne)
After offering 16 million euros and been turned down by Saint-Etienne, Newcastle are on the verge of trying again for St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. But this time, the English club is also showing interest in his teammate Kurt Zouma. The Magpies are about to make an offer of €29 million (£25m) for the two players (€16 for Aubameyang and €13 for Zouma), Newcastle’s interest is for the two players as a pair.
He (Aubameyang) is cool on the idea of joining Newcastle for the moment but the Gabon international striker should soon decide on his future. For their striker, ASSSE (St.Etienne) owners would favour the German clubs (Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund). However, the entourage (agent(s) etc.) of the player are keen in the interest shown by Anzhi Makhachkala .

(Pierre’s Take – ‘From this you could deduce that they want both players or none at all, or they have information that Aubameyang would be interesting in coming if the other one came too.’)
Aubameyang has been much talked about but Zouma looks an oustanding prospect. He’s only 18 but after making his debut at the age of only 16 he’s gone on to make 40 senior appearances at such a young age and at 6ft 2 cuts a powerful figure, with the added bonus of notching four goals from centre-back already. Zouma has played at every level of international football for France up to Under 20s.
Needless to say, if anything along the lines of this deal did actually materialise then it would cap off a very strange couple of weeks.
