Demba Ba Signing Needed to Lift Newcastle United Morale
This morning I read an interesting article claiming former Toon striker Demba Ba is not in Jose Mourinho’s plans and is to be sold for about £10million after being at the club for just five months.
Now I’ve read a lot of tweets, saying that they’d like to see a sensational return to Newcastle United for Demba, and I totally agree with them. We need a striker, who ticks all the boxes for what a striker’s attributes should be, and that’s Demba Ba. He’s got a fair bit of pace, a lethal right foot, a powerful header and a very good team player.
Some people would disagree with me as he is 28 years old this year, so we’d only get about a maximum of four good years out of him. BUT, the current morale of the dressing room at Newcastle United is very low; the morale in the fans is low, hence why I’ve been hearing and reading a lot of negative and pessimistic comments.
That’s why I think we should try and lure Ba back to Newcastle, because he can give a lift to the dressing room, to the fans. He played a key role in our season where we finished 5th. So if we do sign Demba, and a few other top signings, why not challenge 5th again? At least try and build from the horrific season we’ve just had and target at the very least top 10.
Another Chelsea player, who may or may not be in Mourinho’s plans, (I’d be very surprised if he wasn’t) is Romelu Lukaku who had a stunning season for West Brom, netting 17 premier league goals at the age of 20.
If he wasn’t in Mourinho’s plans then maybe I think we should make a move for him, at least on a loan deal anyway but we’d struggle to buy him, simply because we don’t have that financial firepower yet, but with that minimum £60million deal that all current Premier League clubs now get per season, that could generate the funds to bring in Lukaku and Ba, although I very much doubt it that we’d bring in both of them.
If we did bring in either Lukaku or Ba, it would give us a massive lift; even a signing like Dries Mertens (PSV striker) would still give us a huge morale boost, and the mood around St. James’ would be a lot brighter.
So come on Ashley, show some true ambition, send out a message to the fans and sign either Demba Ba or Romelu Lukaku, or even both to try and make ourselves a real force for the upcoming season.
