Ben Arfa In Line To Sign New Contract
With the management of Newcastle United thrown into chaos with the arrival of Joe Kinnear and departure of Derek Llambias, not surprisingly the fans have been left wondering what message or impact this will have on transfer activity.
Anybody expecting significant incoming transfers would appear likely to be disappointed, with a growing feeling that Mike Ashley sees the signings made in January as ones that have been brought forward from this summer, rather than accepting that they are the ones that were essential last summer.
If we aren’t going to be welcoming in the 3 or 4 key signings that I believe we need, then it becomes a no-brainer that if any of Newcastle’s best players leave, it could be disastrous.
The Evening Chronicle reported at the weekend that they are led to believe that Hatem Ben Arfa is to be offered an enhanced five year contract which he is apparently happy to accept.
With Newcastle massively reliant on Ben Arfa and Cabaye for creativity then either leaving would be a nightmare and as for both…
With two years left on his United contract, it is a natural time for a new contract to be put in place as there’s no way that Newcastle want to see a prized asset potentially with only a year to run next summer.
Ironically, injury plagued seasons for both French players is possibly the biggest factor in helping Newcastle to retain them, the price Ashley would demand is likely to look prohibitive when taking into account what the two delivered overall last season.
Obviously we have no idea yet what affect a Joe Kinnnear charm offensive with have on Yohan Kebab and Hat On Ben Afra, so let’s hope Hatem gets that new contract signed, sealed and delivered ASAP.
